365 Poems in 365 Days: Wedding Blues

Number 156 says something about why I feel a touch of melancholy at weddings. Not noted is that I've often had a few drinks and have become maudlin.

The bride and groom are the happiest people present
And I am not a member of the happy couple or ever will be
I don’t begrudge them a single blessing they’ve been sent
But as the evening draws on I feel a touch of melancholy
