I Watch Movies: Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

In the far future, the world used to be ruled by vampires, but isn’t any more. Now vampire hunting is a feasible profession, assuming that one has some kind of super power or ludicrous weaponry. A woman is kidnapped by a vampire and the family hire the notorious vampire hunter “D” – the D stands for, sigh, dhampir, a half vampire-half-human. But other members of the family have hired the even more notorious Marcus brothers. Things get complicated, and also weird.

This is anime, and based on a manga series. It’s a little disjointed, with various characters racing away at top speed, but having time to stop for emotional moments and set piece encounters. It’s pretty, and pretty violent, and manages to have a few interesting character moments between strange creatures fighting the hunters.

Watch This: For an almost mind-bending animated gothic action adventure with lots of violence.
Don’t Watch This: Because it’s anime which is extremely bad apparently.
